Fear And Your Relationship to It

Fear And Your Relationship to It

How many times in your life have you experienced fear? When you answer, I want you to count every single time you have experienced fear. From the big things you have worried about all the way down to the times you were startled by a loud noise or by something you would consider to be totally insignificant. For this exercise you must come up with an exact number.

Finding an exact number is impossible. It is a huge uncalculatable number.

Next, ask yourself, “Of the number of times I have experienced fear (from your answer above) what percent of the total number can I recall?” Take a moment and see what that percentage is.

Next, ask yourself, “Of the percent I can recall, how many of those (including the ones that happened to you) are relevant right now in this moment?”

Now, take a moment to consider the following questions:

What happened to all of the fears that actually did happen to you?

What eventually will happen to every fear you have, or had?

You can ask yourself, “Does my life really care how much I worry about it? Does it really make any difference in what will or won’t happen to me?”

What happens to my physical and emotional energy when I worry?

Spend some time every day and ponder these questions. You will have some very important insights that will help you navigate around this pervasive emotion.
