I have been working with children, adolescents, and families for more than 40 years. I have expertise in the areas of residential treatment, foster care and adoption services working with children who have experienced neglect, abuse, and trauma. I have also worked in education for the past 23 years servicing special education students with severe emotional impairments. I provide outpatient treatment to children, adolescents and adults who present with depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, ODD, conduct disorder, adjustment and mood disorders. I have also worked with children and adults who have been impacted by alcoholism.
My approach is to address possible medical, biochemical, or neurologic contributions to behavior, and collaborate with medical professionals who provide treatment. I use a blend of person-centered and supportive therapy to develop solid therapeutic relationships; implement cognitive behavioral strategies to change thinking patterns and develop healthy coping skills. My approach with children is to work with the family, suggest parenting strategies, and collaborate with the school. Most important, I provide empathy, education, guidance, and support in a relaxed atmosphere with a bit of laughter thrown in!
